COASTAL REGATTAS.

THE HOLIDAY EVENTS. Under the control of the Maractai Improvement Association a regatta and sports will be held there on Boxing Day. The programme, includes yacht races, outboards, canoes, dinghy and swimming races, duck hunt and a number of shore sports such as tug-o'-war, putting the shot, running races, etc., and a model aeroplane competition. A strong committee is working for the success of the sports, Mr. F. L. Cunnold being the secretary. On Thursday, December 28, a regatta will be held off Surfdale. The programme is a comprehensive one and some excellent prizes are offered. For the allcomers' yacht race a section at Surfdale is offered as first prize, the Sports Club's Cup is offered for yachts 16ft and under, Stewart Dawson Gup for 14-footers sailed <by boys, Jas. Pascoe Cup for local yacht race, and several other good prizes. The sports include running events and children's races. Events are. all post entries. A regatta has been organised by the residents of Omiha (Rocky Bay) which takes place on Saturday, December 30. There will be a full programmeof sailing races for all classes from H to Z. Entries will be received by Mr. W. J. Matthews on regatta morning. A regatta will bo held at Whitianga on •Saturday, December 30, the programme comprising a race for keel yaohts, commencing at 11 a.m.; a race for the mullet boat class at 11.45 a.m.; a launch race (allcomers) and another for boats under nine knots, also dinghy and canoe races. The swimming races, which start at one o'clock, comprise 13 events. A race for local outboard boats for the Hamilton Cup will be held at 2.30 p.m., a launch race over nine knots, and a bang-and-go-back race for launches steered by ladies, also the Bell Cup rowing race. Good trophies are offered for each event. The regatta is run almost exclusively by a ladies' committee, of which Miss M. Bryce is the honorary secretary. In connection with this regatta a yacht race from Tauranga to Whitianga will be held, startingtfrom Tauranga on Thursday, December 28. On Friday sports will be held, including wood chopping, steer riding and horse events. The usual regatta will be held off Cowes Bay on Monday, January 1. All arrange- \ ments have been made by Mr. W. J. Connell, who will be assisted by local residents and one or two Auckland enthusiasts. The events include races for keel yachts, 26, 20 and 22-footers, 18ft, 16ft and 14ft classes. The motor events include two launch races, over nine and under nine knots, a settlers' race, outboard races and a bona-fide yacht or launches' sailing dinghy race. Post entries for all events J are received on the Cowes Bay wharf on regatta morning.
