SHEEP IN DOMINION.

LATEST OFFICIAL RETURNS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) MASTERTON, Wednesday. _ The value of the latest official statistics of sheep flocks in New Zealand was questioned by Mr. Duncan McGregor at the annual meeting of the New Zealand farmers' Co-operative Distributing Company, Ltd., to-day. Mr. McGregor said"that according to the official statistics there had been a large decline last year, particularly in Canterbury and Southland. He very much doubted that there had been any decline or, at all events, a large decline. Stock statistics were collected on April 30 and this at times was apt to give a misleading result. In a dry season fat stock was drafted early in "the year. He had visited Southland in May, and he found that a very large number of fat sheep and lambs had already been disposed of. "An accurate indication of the position of stock in New Zealand is not given," said Mr. McGregor. "I suggest that stock statistics should be collected on June 30, instead of April 30."
