UNPOPULAR "CUT."

WAGE REDUCTION NOT APPLIED

(Received 11 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. By unanimous vote the Water Board decided not to apply the basic wage cut to its employees. The City Council is not likely to apply the reduction to its staffs. Another six Sydney firms have announced that they will not reduce the wages. A message from Canberra says the Federal basic wage in all the States is to be slightly increased to meet the increased 'cost of living based on the Government Statistician's figures. The increase will average only a few pence.

CARRIED BY FEDERAL SENATE. (Received 11 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. A Canberra message says that in the early hours of the morning the Senate, by 19 votes to 9, passed the measure increasing the salaries of Federal members of the House of Representatives by j£7s a^eaiv
