Under the trade agreement, Australia grants New Zealand generally the benefit of the British preferential tariff except for certain lines, on whicli lower rates have been arranged. The chief of these are:— Goods From New Zealand. Still Wine.—l/ a gallon, instead of 19/. Bacon and Hams.—2d per lb, instead of 3d. Stilton Cheese.—Free, instead of 6d per lb. Fresh, Smoked or Dried Fish.—Free, instead of Id per lb. SeedT Peas. —Free, instead of 1/6 a cental. Hay and Chaff. —Free, instead of £1 a ton. Meats, Preserved, in airtight containers.—2d per lb, instead of 3d. Fish Soup. —Free, instead of 30 per cent, or 3d per lb. Onions.— £1 a ton, instead of £8. ' Apparel.—2s per cent, instead of various rates. Woollen Floor Rugs.—Free, instead of 15 per cent. Pig Iron. —Free, instead of £1 a ton. Certain Agricultural and Dairying Machines and Implements.—Free, instead of various rates. Certain Lines of Machinery.—2o per cent, instead of various higher rates. Tallow. —Free, instead of 2/ per cwt or 10 per cent. Whale Oil. —Free, instead of 6d a gallon. Sugar of Milk. —15 per cent, instead of 30 per cent. Hewn or Rough Sawn Timber. —Free, instead of various rates. Shotgun Cartridges.—Free, instead o£ 15 per cent. The primage duty is abolished from New Zealand goods. Higher Than British. The chief of these are:— Hops.—9d per lb/ instead of 6d. Potatoes. — £2 10/ a ton, instead of £1 a ton. Fresh Vegetables.—2s per cent, instead of 20 per cent. Fresh Cherries. —3d, instead of 2d. Canned Fruits, except Pineapples.— 35 per cent, instead of 25 per cent. Jams. —2Jd per lb, instead of 2d. Soap.—3o per cent, instead of 25 per cent. Rugs, Blankets and Textiles Containing Wool. —25 per cent, instead of 20 per cent. Footwear, Other Than Rubber.—3s per cent, instead of 25 per cent. Leather Bags.—3o per cent, instead of 25 per cent. Hoofing Tiles. —20 per cent, instead of 10 per cent. Tinware and Galvanised Iron Manufactures. —30 per cent, instead of 25 per cent. Lower Than British. Lower duties than British preferential rates are imposed on certain Australian products, the chief of which are:—■ Hay and Chaff.—Free, instead of 20 per cent or £1 a ton. Seed Peas.—Free, instead of 2/ a cental. Confectionery.—27J per cent, instead of 30 per cent. Still Wine. —4/ a gallon, instead, of 6/. Rough Sawn or Hewn Timber.—Free, instead of 7/0 or 9/6 per 100 ft. A duty of Id per lb is imposed on raisins under the general tariff. I
