PRESSWELL NOTES.
"Presswell" regrets that lack of space this week makes it impossible for his notes to appear. The series will continue as usual on Wednesdaynext. A PENNY TRICK. Here is a trick which will please people quite a lot. Fill a tumbler nearly, but not quite, full of water. Across the top stretcli and tie a piece of tissue paper. The thinner the paper the more successful will be the trick. When the paper has been securely tied with thin string or thread, place a penny exactly in the centre. The problem is to make the coin drop into the water without touching it, the paper, or the glass. This seems impossible, and your friends soon give up the job as hopeless. Naturally, they will challenge you to do the trick, and then you can show them how it is done. Into a small jug put a little water and then allow a few drops to fall on the paper on which the penny is resting. The paper, being very thin, is soon made soft by the water so that it can 110 longer support the coin, which falls down into the water. Thus you have causcd the penny to drop into the water without touching anything at all.
