CRICKET.

AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION. COACHING SCHOOL FOR BOYS. TRANSFER RULES NOT OBSERVED. Before the consideration of business at last night's meeting of the Auckland Cricket Association, it was resolved, on the motion of the chairman, Mr. E. E. Nalder, that a letter of condolence be sent to Lady Bankart in connection with her recent bereavement. It was stated that the association had lost a valued friend and a generous supporter in the death of Sir Alfred Bankart. The question of appointing a coach for primary schools' cricket was discussed at length. Mr. J*. Shaw, convener of the coach committee, recommended, on behalf of that body, that no primary schools' coacli be appointed by the Auckland Association. As an alternative scheme, he suggested that the senior clubs should be responsible for the coaching of primary schools, each club to make itself responsible for half a dozen schools in groups. Mr. Shaw also suggested that lectures should be given 011 cricket to the primary schools by leading players of the senior grade. He said he would interview all headmasters and go fully into the matter. With regard to the coaching of primary and secondary school boys during the [Christmas vacation, the coach committee recommended that a summer school should be held lor two or three weeks in midJanuary. The coaching would be in the hands of representative players, and practices would be held at Eden Park, the Domain, Victoria Park and North Shore. The coach committee, in putting, forward this scheme, had in mind players like G. L. Weir, A. M. Matheson and R. G. Bush. Mr. D. V. Moore, the primary schools' representative, in supporting the summer school, said lie thought that it was a considerable improvement in the right direction in the coaching of the boys, particularly as it was practically impossible to arrange morning coaching at the schools. Applications for transfers were granted: •T. W. Morrison, North Shore to Stanley Bay;- G. Yarnton, Takapuna to North Shore; P. Anderson, Parnell to Papatoctoe; 1). Ireland, Birkdale to Y.M.C.A.; H. Chapman, W.Y.M.I. to Y.M.C.A.; C. M. Fountain, University to All Saints'; A. S. Bagtiall. University to Parnell; E. Gray, Comrades to Ponsonby.

'i'ransfers deferred pending inquiries:— B. Hart, B. Cohen, I. G. Howden, S. G. Gorman, C. Maher. The whole question of transfers caiised a good deal of discussion, as applications were coming in without the approval or disapproval of the old club, and meantime the players concerned were actually playing for their new club before a transfer was granted. It was decided that the transfer rules be strictly adhered to, clubs offending to be penalised even to the extent of loss of any points gained in a match. An application from the Grafton Club for the regrading of J. Felts from first to senior B grade was granted. As there had been much, doubt in.the minds of captains in the Labour Day matches regarding the- time limit of the side batting first, it was decided that in all one-day games (such as Labour and Anniversary Day fixtures) there should be a time limit against the team having the initial strike. (In the ordinary twoSaturdav contests, provided a side has batted 3% hours on the opening day, it cannot continue its innings on the second day.) . Concerning the insurance of umpires, the gub-committee recommended that thosn officially accepting payment be insured under the workers' compensation scheme—all others to be covered under the general accident insurance, as in previous years. . . ' . As onlv four entries —Tamaki, Isortlicote, Y.M.C.A. and Comrades—had been received for the fifth grade competition, there was a feeling that it may not be advisable to carry on with this contest. It was eventually resolved to extend the time for receiving entries for another New Zealand Council wrote submitting a new set of rules for all jnterprovincial matches. Messrs. N. C. Snedden and L. B. Sclinauer were appointed to examine the rules and report to the committee. , It was thought advisable that members of the executive should be provided with badges when officiating at representative matches at Eden Park and visiting other associations and playing areas. The second grade matches set down tor next Saturday will be one-day matches onlv, in order to keep the grade in line with the senior B and first grade matches.
