YOUNG MAN GUILTY.
STOREKEEPER ASSAULTED. EARLY MORNING ATTACK. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PALMER STON N., Tuesday. In the Supreme Court to-day Lindsay Edist Edward Garner, a panelbeater. aged 23 years, was found guilty of assaulting with some person unknown Cristian Martin Sorensen, aged 83, a storekeeper at Himitangi, in the early hours of the morning of July 1. Garner faced alternative charges of assault and assault causing actual bodily liann. He was remanded for sentence. Roused from his bed at three o'clock in the morning, Mr. Sorensen was asked to supply petrol and oil to two men who had stopped opposite the etore in a motor car. As he was holding a light while one of the men was pouring oil into the car, the other man struck him a blow on the head. When Mrs. Sorensen appeared on the scene the men ordered her to hand over money from the cash drawer. This, however, was empty, but the men were alleged to have gone off with cigarettes valued at about £1. Mrs. Sorensen roused neighbours, who chased the motor car in a lorry but failed to overtake it.
