TOWN PLANNING.

REGIONAL SCHEMES. MR. W. J. JORDAN'S INQUIRIES. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Government's intentions regarding the operation of the Town Planning Act were sought in the House yesterday by Mr. W. J. Jordan (Labour, Manukau), who asked whether provisions were in force under which a regional plan was to be issued co-ordinating the several local plans of the Auckland metropolitan area, or whether each local authority had power to define what areas under its control should be used for particular purposes. Mr. Jordan inquired also whether a director of town planning was to be appointed shortly, or whether the whole matter of town planning was to be held over_in the meantime. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, promised to bring the question under the notice of the Minister of Internal Affairs. "Local bodies in Auckland," said Mr. Jordan subsequently, "have spent thousands of pounds preparing plans, as the 192G Act demanded that every borough and town district with a population exceeding 1000 should submit to tha Town Planning Board a scheme before January 1, 1930. This was extended until, first, 1932, and then to 1937. Local bodies surely are entitled to know what policy, if any, the Government has in. view."
