LEAGUE FOOTBALL.
THE SEASON ENDS.
MARISTS DEFEAT RICHMOND,
A successful season by the Auckland Rugby League was concluded on Saturday when, under the auspices of the Grey Lynn branch of the Auckland Metropolitan Unemployed Association, Marist Old Boys and Richmond Kovers played a challenge match, won by the former by 16 points to 5. To support a worthy cause there was a good attendance and the football, if rather below the high standard set by the clubs concerned, proved to be bright and even. Both thirteens took the opportunity to try out likely colts, Marists, with their inside oacks opening up well, took the lead early in the piece and were six points up at the interval. The second half was more exciting and Richmond more than held their own, but just lacked finish. On the other hand the Marist backs turned occasional opportunities to greater account. For Marists Dunn, V. R. Jones (a recent recruit), Campbell (2) and O'Halloran (a promising third grade forward) kicked two fine goals. Lawless scored for Richmond and Cooko goaled. D. Herring (Marists) won the goal-kick-ing competition, and B. Schultz (Marists) won the sprint race. An interval goalkicking contest between officials and old players resulted in Mr. A. T. McClymont (Richmond coach) taking the honours. The Waterside Workers' Band enhanced the pleasure of the occasion with good selections.
