YEAR'S PROFIT OVER £750,000. (Received 10.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. The Premier, Mr. B. S. Stevens, in the Assembly, in a statement, said the year's profit from the State lottery amounted to £757,927. BILL REJECTED. DIVORCE IN NEW SOUTH WALES <Received 10.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. The Divorce Bill introduced by Mr. A. Henry (Country party), making insanity and seven years' separation grounds for divorce, was defeated in the Legislative Assembly by 50 votes to 8 on the second reading. . The bill had caused widespread controversy.

TASMANIA'S BUDGET. DEFICIT OF £50,000 SHOWN. (Received 10.30 a.m.) HOBART, this day. The State Treasurer, Mr. McPhee, presenting the Budget in the Assembly, disclosed a deficit of £50,000 for the year. The estimated deficiency for the current year is £55,000. The Government is not reducing taxation. FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. NEW HONORARY MINISTER. MELBOURNE, October 17. Sir Harry Lawson has accepted office in the Federal Ministry as an honorary Minister. Sir Harry Lawson was Premier of Victoria from November 3, 1920, to March 19, 1924. He first entered the Victorian Legislative Assembly as member for Castlemaine in ISB9.

DAIRY SHOW. EMPIRE COMPETITIONS. (Received 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, October 17. At the Dairy Show, the Empire competitions for butter resulted: —Salted, Downs Co-operative, Goomtiungee, Queensland, 97h points, 1; unsalted, Adelaide Milk Supply Co-operative, 97, 1. The quality of the butters impressed the experts, as did the general excellence of those -shown and the fact that the lowest points awarded for unsalted were 88 and for salted 90. Cheese: Kelso Co-operative, New Zealand, 1; Downs, Lily vale, 2; Awarua Cooperative, Winton, New Zealand, 3; Fairfax Co-operative, Otautau, New Zealand, reserve; Downs, Wyreema, and Waianiwa Co-operative, New Zealand," highly commended; Wright's Bush Cooperative, New Zealand, and Lowgarth Co-operative, New Zealand, commended.
