SUNDAY TENNIS.
ON SCHOOL COURTS.
WELLINGTON BY-LAW STANDS RESCINDING MOTION LOST. (By Telegraph.—Fress Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. A motion which was moved by the chairman to rescind the resolution that! tennis should be allowed on school courts on Sundays, subject to school committees' assent, was lost at to-day's meeting of the Education Board. There was no discussion, and the voting was the same as that which carried the motion, viz., seven and six. An executive meeting which was held last night refused by lour votes to three a request from the Rev. Bramwcll Scott that the board receive a deputation 011 the matter. The new by-law authorising school committees to allow Sunday tennis if they so desire was confirmed by to-day's meeting of the board, and further discussion arose over the position of the Island Bay Tennis Club, whose lease with the board directly prohibits play 011 Sundays, these courts not being controlled by the school committee. This matter was deferred for a month pending an exjiression of legal opinion. AUCKLAND DECISION. At to-day's meeting of the Auckland Education Board permission was refused to several tennis clubs to use school tennis courts on Sunday, the chairman, Mr. T. U. Wells, pointing out that the board had no authority to isisue such permission.
