RIFLE SHOOTING.

WET DAY AT PENROSE,

Akarana were unlucky to strike the conditions which prevailed on Saturday for the long ranges. Although wind changes were not; severe rain fell during most of the afternoon, and visibility was so poor that the spotters on the targets could not bo seen, even with telescopes. The shoot of vv. Colquhoun was the outstanding one; coming back with 45 ColQuhouu made a splendid 48 at 900 yards, dropping a point with each of his second and ninth shots A. G. Devore scoring 47 at 800 yards and a 4- at 000 yards gave him second place. The IS section could not get on top of the conditions. A. M. Richardson won with i.t, and not one of his section broke 40 at 900 yards. City lired at 200 and 300 yards. Here the visibility was not so bad, and, although the rain was heavy at the second range, the scores of those who completed their shoots were good. G. G. Kelly made 4.8 at 2<>o yards, and 47 at 300 yards, total 95 H. Simmonds was next with 01, with Clark a weak 01 in third place. A. G. Robertson shot solidly for 48 at 200 yards, but was prevented by rain from shooting at 300 yards. J. A. Spry made a splendid 45 at 300 yards, as he had pouring rain for the entire shoot. Among City's junior shots the best were S. C. Parkinson 44, .T. \V. Jessop 44, J. E. Kelly and R. Verrall 43 each. Dargaville's new club has opened up well, and over 20 men fired there last week. Among the best performers one noticed Jim White, who once shot for Auckland City with considerable success. The miniature clubs are concluding their shoots this month. In Auckland K. Bowes lias won the championship with seven possibles and eight 79's. His score equals that of G. G. Kelly, who won the cup in 19.31 and again iu 1932. Ben Crocker was a close second, two points away.
