TRAINING FOR MINISTRY,

ALLOCATION OF FUNDS. The 51st annual Assembly of the Baptist Union of New Zealand will end today. At the morning session yesterday the Rev. L. P. Crampton introduced the Rev. George Frost and the Rev. W. Gilmour, president and secretary respectively of the Auckland. Ministers' Association. Acting as a deputation from the New Zealand Council of Religious Education, the Revs. E. P. Blamires and L. B. Busfield addressed the assembly. It was stated that there were probably 100.000 children in the Dominion who received no religious instruction. Their probationary course having been completed, the Revs. J. D. Jensen and A. L. Silcock, and Messrs. C. P. Reav and L. P. Bryan were admitted into the ministerial membership of the union. Work of the College. The fine service rendered to the Baptist College since its inception by Mr. F. N. Andrews was referred to by the Bev. R. H. Kempton, who spoke also of the loss suffered by the death of the late Rev. J. W. Kemp. Twelve men were in training for the ministry. Receipts for the year totalled £1117, of which £300 was from the Tabernacle Building Trust. Expenditure was £1099. Assets of the college were £7000. The Rev. Dr. J. J. North, principal of the college, said that the curriculum had been faithfully followed and the tutor, the Rev. A. J. Grigg, had worked assiduously. The college committee elected for the ensuing year was: —The Revs. R. N. Kempton, A. S. Rollings, John Laird, J. K. Archer and E. S. Tuckwell and Messrs. F. N. Andrews, H. Dearsley, S. Barry, W. H. Newton and F. W. Horner. Home Mission. The Home Mission report w-as pre- | sented by the Rev. E. T. Jones. The following were appointed a home mission department of the union:—The Revs. E. T. Jones (convener). R. Stoward,. H. R. | Turner, J. Ewen, Simpson, Mesdames Bardslev, Driver, Cole. Thornton, Messrs. F. W. Horner, A. R. Penman and A. Iv. Murray. The' Revs. L. B. Busfield. C. W. Duncunib, S. Jenkin. R. Stoward and Messrs. H. Dearsley and W. H. Newton ■ were appointed a ministerial settlement

scheme committee. Position of Funds. Mr. F. W. Gaze presented the report of the jubilee fund, which now stood at £923 in the loan section and £1190 in the gift section. The sum of £450 had been loaned to seven churches to be repaid at the rate of 10 per cent per annum. The offer from the Tabernacle Building Trust of £200 on condition that the churches raised a pound for a pound up to the £200 had been accepted. It was estimated that the income of the union was £1673. The following grants in aid were made in the Auckland district:—Cambridge £20. Morrinsville £70, Otahuhu £50, Mil ford £15, Sandjringham £45, Tauranga £45, Royal Oak ; £55, North Memorial £50, sundries £40; total of £435. Grants were made to ! southern centres and the total expendij ture was £1753.

The president-elect, the Rev. John Laird, was introduced by Mr. W. J. Bardslev, the president. The Rev. Laird presided in the evening over a largo attendance, when the Rev. L. J. BoltonSmith gave an address on "God's Ambassadors ,jn the Modern World." The Rev. Dr. «T. J. Xorth conducted the sacred service of the Lord's Supper at the conclusion of the address. There was a large number of communicants. The next assembly is to be held in Wellington so that the jubilee of the Missionary Society might be celebrated the following year in Dunedin, the .city of the foundation of the society in ISBS.
