"FLORENCE."
Florence comes fiom the Latin word "flos"—a flower. It is also identical with Flora, the goddess of the ancient Romans, whq was the special deity of youth and youthful pleasures. Two hundred and thirty-eight years before the birth of Christ a temple was erected to Flora, and every year a festival was held in her honour. This was a glad festival, men and women, ai.d boys and girls, attired in gorgeous robes and festooned with flowers, walked in procession throughout the city for six daye.
