AMATEUR JOCKEY DIES.

Only a few weeks ago we were mourning the death of Captain Sassoon —"the gallant captain" as everyone, including the bookies, called hini on the racecourse. Now comes the news that another famous amateur rider, Mr. Alex. Cottrill, has also passed away, succumbing to the injuries he sustained by a fall from his horse at Lewes less than a week ago. Mr. Cottrill had been so long in the limelight that it seems almost unbelievable that he was only 23 years of age. Tor a young man, lionised to the extent he was, his outlook on life was singularly serious. No one will be more sorry to hear of his death than King George, for in the course of his career he rode many winning mounts for His Majesty. 1
