New Zealand Golf Championships—Merizies Heads the Open Field—Two Strokes Ahead of Professionals,

The second round of the open golf championship of New i i' decided those of the field of 11 7 players who world remain to contest the final two rounds on Monday was played at Titirangi to-day. After the next two rounds the 36 amateurs with the best aggregate will be drawn for the amateur championship, and the 1 6 leading professionals for their title

The conditions to-day, with a fair northerly breeze, provided a much better test, and that the course was more difficult was revealed by the scoring. Bruce Menzies, the Auckland Club player, still retains his place at the head of the field but unfortunate y he did not enter for the event. It appears that the title will be again disputed by the professionals. There is however a sprinkling of amateurs, Ralph, Hornabrook, Pym, B : V * Brmsden and H. Black, in the sixteen leading players. Fhe professional H. Blair is five strokes better than all the amateurs, excepting Ralph, who is three strokes behind.

Blair had the best round of the day— a 72—while Mcintosh 74, Weir and Douglas 76, and Moss 77 were the next best. Menzies round was 78.
