PALMER MEMORIAL.
Trophy Presented to Winning* Team. The objects of tho Bert Palmer Memorial Trophy competition were explained by Mr. Ilarrv Frost at the first presentation of the trophy at Eden Park this afternoon.
The trophy, said Mr. Frost, had been presented to the Auckland Rugby Union by Mr. J. Marsden Caughcy to perpetuate tho memory of a lino Auckland, North Island and New Zealand player and good sportsman, the late B. P. Palmer. It was left to tho union to decide for what competition the trophy should be awarded, and the committee, after careful consideration, had decided to inaugurate a special competition among the junior boys. A feature of the competition was that tho actual winning of matches was not brought into account, every team having an equal chance of success. Team spirit, loyalty, punctuality and conduct on and off the field were the chief considerations in the winning of the trophy, while penalties for non-com-plianco with the rules were provided for. Eighteen teams entered for the competition, and the referees awarded tho points. The points were not known to anyone except tho official who compiled the record each week. The president of the Auckland Rugby Union, Mr. J. Arneil, presented the trophy to Roy Jackson, captain of the Manukau team.
