JACOBEAN ARCHITECTURE.

One of the host specimens of Jacobean architecture still to be seen in London is Powis House, in Lincoln's Inn Fields. It was built in IGSG by Lord Powis. A three-storeyed building of red brick, approached by a. double flight of steps, its front bears a number of heraldic devices of its various owners. Among those who lived at Powis House were Lord Chancellor Somers and John Holies, Duke of Newcastle, who purchased the house early in the eighteenth century. !Most of the interior is now utilised as offices. It was in a front room of Powis House that William Paterson, in 1691, first formulated his plans for the establishment of the Dank of England.
