CULTIVATION BETWEEN CROPS.
The soil between most growing crops will benefit by being loosened with the hoe. If the surface is close and hard, prick over lightly* with a fork. This applies to the cabbage bed, also to lettuces, onions and spinach. Any transplanting should receive early attention. Dust old soot between the rows to discourage slugs and gently stimulate "Towth. Remove old stumps of winter greens, and jirepare the ground for the next crop.
Coal ashes have no manurial value, but wood ashes contain potash, and should bo stored in a dry place.
