WHALES AT SUVA.
ONE INCLINED TO STAY.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
SUVA, September 30.
Whales have been found always in or around the Fiji group, and this year many have been reported as passing through on their way south. Some weeks ago one found its way into Suva harbour. Since then it seems to have become acclimatised and continues to bo seen disporting itself within its confined area. It is becoming known as a permanent resident.
Early in the week Mr. F. Woodhouse in a cutter bound from Levuka to the island of Koro enjoyed the unique experience of having a guard of honour of eight whales. He sailed right through the school, and had three whales to port and five to starboard. The whales came within a few hundred yards of Levuka Passage and were watched with interest by many people from the shore.
