WIN FOR ST. GEORGE.
SOUTH AUCKLAND BEATEN. SEVENTEEN POINTS TO FIVE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) TAUriRI, this day. Tn a game against South Auckland yesterday the St. George (Sydney) tourists won by * points to ."». On arrival from Kotoruu the visitors were welcomed at N'giUiiawahiu by the flavor, Mv. Kyre, and the president of tlie South Auckland Rugby League, Mv. R. T. Hill.
Tho match was ratlior disappointing. The liome team won the toss and played with their backs to the sun. St. George gpcurod the first try early in the game, when, from a scrum near the home side's* line, Rutherford got over. The try wae not converted. G. Tittleton and Hill were unfortunate <n being pulled up about ten yards from tho St. George line after making a line run up the side line. Shortly afterwards Tittleton failed in .a kick at Ron I. Play swung back to South Auckland territory, and Martin, dodging half n dozen South fVuc-kland men, took play to the home line, where he was brought down. Tho second try came to Hayward, following a passing rush. The kick again failed. Kelly next seemed a try for the visilors, after a rnisuing rush in which Robinson and Martin figured prominently. Again the kick failed. A fine attempt was then made by O. Tittleton, who broke awiiy, but was brought down just before he readied the line. Following very close play near South Auckland's line Rutherford again secured a try. Martin's kick again failed. At half-time the visitors led 12-0.
Early in the second half G. Tittloton made a. fine dash and before being brought down passed to Baker, who dived over. Tittleton's kick failed. Later Baker broke away, with Mason in support, but both were brought down. Peckham, however, picked up smartly and went within an ace of scoring before he was called back for an infringement. South Auckland secured its last points when Tittloton kicked a penalty goal. Xear the end of the game Robinson scored another try for tlie visitors. The try was converted and tho game ended: St. George 17 South Auckland 5 Mr. A. Williams was referee. A seven-a-aido tourney vas staged as a curtain-raiser to tho representative match. Hiintly A beat Ngaruawahia by 0 points to 5 and Huntly B beat Tauph'i by S points to (i. In. the final, Huntly A beat Huntly B by 3 points to 0. The winning team was: Singer, Speers. Milburn, Xoithmoie, Sydou, Roberts, O'Brien.
