WOMEN IN SHORTS.
TENNIS DRESS REFORM,
LONDON, September 29.
Women are wearing shorts in almost every tennis tournament, with the notable exception of Sidmouth, where shorts are forbidden by the committee on the ground that they might offend old patrons. Vivid green shorts appeared at the Welsh covered court championships at Llandudno. LEAGUE CONVENTION. READJUSTMENT ADVOCATED. LONDON, September 20. It is strange, says "The Times" in a leading article, that, while every sort of international jamboree, whether of scouts, athletes or scientists, is hailed as an excellent occasion to improve international relations, doubt regularly is cast on the usefulness of the "annual meetings of the League of Nations. The inability of some signatories to observe the League covenant may be a reason for readjusting it, but not for scrapping it. The Assembly's function in bringing the leaders of every nation together on terms of equality has never been more useful than now, especially with respect to Germany.
