The official opening of the above club tool place on Saturday, at Devonport, in the pre sence of ISO players and visitors. Mr. K. II Little, Deputy Mayor of Devonport, ii remarking on the line playing area am facilities available to tlie 120 members men tioned that although tlie club had only beet in existence for seven years it could b< classed as one of the largest and mosi popular clubs in Auckland. He complt merited the energetic officials for the- way ir which they were catering for local resident. 4 and the game of tennis in general, and stated that as the council was always pre pared to help those who help themselves, there was not one dissentient vote at the last meeting of the council when the club's proposal regarding the laying down of the seventh court was submitted. Mrs. Little had the honour of serving the first ball foi the new season. During the afternoon 144 players took pnrt in a progressive tournament. and the winners were eventually Mrs F. Warner and Mr. Gelling. Suitable trophies were presented to tlie winners by the president, Mr. F. Best. FRANKLIN ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the Franklin Lawn Tennis Association was held on Friday evening, Mr. R. J. Glasgow presiding. Mr. P, Harrison, president of the Auckland Association, pointed out the advantages of reaffiliating with tlie Auckland Association, as against the association's proposal to affiliate direct with tlie New Zealand Association. The secretary, Mr. W. C. Morrin, suggested that the benefits derived from the -Auckland Lawn Tennis Association did not warrant the affiliation fee of about £18, which was paid. Bv affiliating direct a saving of about £!) would be affected. Air. Harrion said that a reduction in the affiliation fee would lie brought about as soon as possible. No decision was'arrived at.
