AMATEUR WRESTLING.
BRIGHT BIRKENHEAD TOURNEY. Bright and hard wrestling was seen at an amateur tourney held in Birkenhead Foresters' Hall last night. The contests, which were staged by the Takapuna Surf liife-Saving Club to help raise funds for the Birkenhead group of the dental clinic, were of high order. A surprise was caused when F. Munce (Birkenhead) gained a decision over S. V. Higgins (Takapuna) after a sparkling display of fast and scientific wrestling.
The officials were: Referee, Mr. H. C. Sidford; timekeeper, Mr. J. Simpkiss; announcer, Mr. It. Moor. Kesults were as follows :—S. Booth (Bayview), 9.7. beat G. Edwards (Takapuna Surf Club), 9.8, on points. It. Southwaite (Wilson's), 10.0, beat It. Double (Takapuna Surf Club), 10.0, with a press In the last round of a hard and even bout. It. Douglas (light heavy-weight champion), 12.7, beat F. Zambucca (Wilson's), 12.4, by a fall in the second. J. Moloney (Takapuna Surf Club), 11.0, drew with P. Walding (Bayview), 11.1, a stopper hold giving the latter the first fall and Maloney equalising with a press in the last minute of the contest. N. Galbraith (Takapuna Surf Club), 14.C, drew with C. Bell (Bayview), 14.0, after three excellent rounds, in which no falls were registered. B. Green (Bayview), 9.7, drew with F. Whitcombe, 9.4, no falls being taken in a spectacular bout. B. Tupp (Bayview), 10.0, beat It. Harman (Wilson's), 10.2, after a solid bout the winner taking the only fall with a twisted head scissors. F. Munce (Birkenhead), 11.5, beat S. V Higgins (Takapuna Surf Club), 11.0, with a double barred toe hold in the final round of an excellent contest. X. E. Brown (Takapuna Surf Club), 10.0, drew with E. Ivey (Bayview), 10.7, each securing a fall. H. Bloletti (Takapuna Surf Club), 11.0. beat J. Dale (Auckland), 10.11, in a fast moving and hard bout with a cradle hold in the second round.
