MR. G. E. RHODES' FUNERAL
The funeral of the late Mr. G. E. Rhodes, chairman and trustee of the Auckland Rugby League for Ave years, took place yesterday afternoon, when a lengthy cortege of" motor vehicles followed'the casket to the Waikuniete Cemetery, where the service was conducted bv the Rev. Harold Fallows, of All Saints' Church. The chief mourners were Miss Pegsy Rhodes, a daughter, and Mr. R. G. Rhodes, of Melbourne, a son, who happened to be on a visit to Auckland when his father died suddenly. Mr. Cecil Rhodes, of Christchurch, the other son, was unable to be present. Mr. Walter Rhodes, a brother, was present. Another brother, Mr. C. N. Rhodes, resides in Svdney. Sisters are Miss Edith Rhodes. Mesdames Carter-Boles (Opotiki), R. C. Stokes (Ardmore), A. Stokes (Waihi), and F. Stewart (Morrinsville). The family originally resided at Remuera, but the late Mr.* Rhodes was horn in the Mount Eden district. Various units of the Auckland and New Zealand Rugby Leagues were well represented, Mr. H." Frost being present on behalf of the Auckland Rugby Union. Among others were Messrs. G. Grey Campbell (chairman of the Auckland League), J. Stormont (trustee), W. J. Hammill (ex-chairman), J. W. Probert, L. G. Binns and W. Mincham (members of the Board of Control), F. D. Ellis and J. Knowling (treasurer and assistant treasurer respectively), Ivan Culpan (secretary), V. Simpson (Referees' Association), and D. Wilkie (Junior Management). The clubs were represented as follow: —Messrs. H. G. Gerrard (Devonport), A. W. MeClymont (Richmond), H. Wood (Newton), H. Duane (Marist Old Boys), N. D. Culpan, treasurer of the council (Ponsonby), and E. K. Asher, a selector (City Rovers). Mr. W. O. Carlaw, secretary of the New Zealand League, also attended, together with Mr. "W. Monteith and Messrs. Owen Mahon and J. Dixon. The coffin was draped with the Auckland Rugby League flag, and there were many beautiful floral wreaths.
