LEAGUE FOOTBALL.
CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS. PROGRAMME FOR SATURDAY. BOARD OF CONTROL BUSINESS. At the meeting of the Auckland Rugby League Board of Control last evening, Mr. G. Grey Campbell presiding, it was reported that arrangements were well forward for the champion of champions event for the Stormont Memorial Shield on Saturday between Dcvonport United and Richmond Rovers, winners of the premiership and Hoopc Rooster knock-out: respectively. The curtain-raisers will be two matches of the challenge round between Marists and Ponsonby, and at 2.30 p.m. between Newton and City. The winners of the main fixture will meet bt. George (Sydney) on Saturday week. A resolution was passed thanking Mr. J. Rukutai for the work he had accomplished as manager and coach of the Auckland team. Mr. Rukutai, in acknowledging the compliment, said his acquaintance with the players in this work had shown the need of closer touch between the management and senior players, who were very appreciative of consideration given them by the board. The chairman stilted that, as there were many suggestions to the cllcct that a better side could be chosen than'the present Auckland representative team, it had been decided to pick a special team from the challenge round to meet on October 7 the side which defeated South Auckland on Saturday. . In connection with a recent protest by the Ponsonby Club claiming to have earned, without being awarded, a'point in their recent challenge round match with Newton (who won I—OJ, the chairman reported that, after full investigation into the matter, the special committee had decided to order the replaying of the game it it had any bearing on the result of the competition. . Ponsonby also wrote complaining of the delay in starting the senior reserve grade match on No. 2 ground between Ponsonby and Richmond on Saturday until the ' match on No. 1 ground had been finished. ! After hearing the briof facts from Mr. JB. Longbottom (Ponsonby) and tlic referee (Mr. Chapman), the meeting derided to consider the matter further with Richmond delegates in attendance. The reinstatement of Noel Bickerton (ex-Ponsonby) to play for Richmond, was approved, subject to confirmation by the New Zealand Council. Mr. Wilkie stated that a junior club conference of delegates was to be held next week, and Mr. Mincham advised that the Referees' Association proposed to alter its constitution during the off-season. It was resolved to grant Newton Bangers and Richmond Rovers seniors the use of Carlaw Park on October 14 for special club matches between the clubs.
