Certain former students of ' Victoria University College recently discussed informally the desirability and feasibility of expressing in some appropriate and permanent form appreciation of the services of. the foundation (1899) professors of their Alma Mater—Professors J. Kankine Brown, H. Mackenzie, T. H. Easterfield and the late Professor R, C. Maclaurin, and as the result it, was resolved to endeavour to have portraits in oils of -Professors Brown, Mackenzie and Easterfield painted by Mr. A. F. Nicoll, of Christchurch, for presentation to the college library. If an oil painting of Professor Maclaurin is available a copy will be procured, or, in the alternative, a portrait will be painted posthumously. Mr. Nicoll is expected to arrive to-morrow;. . ■ '- ■

Professors Brown and Mackenzie have served the college continuously for 35 years, and Professor Easterfield.2o years ago assumed the duties of director of the Cawthron 'Institute,' Nelson. Professor Maclaurin became president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston, and died there in 1920.
