"BUTTERY" COMES BACK.
The word "buttery," used in certain rural sections of tho United States a generation ago, has been recently employed by a smart London hotel for its new luncheon room. At Oxford and Cambridge the term is in use to designate tho place from which students avd served with bread, butter and tho like; in the United States its use wns confined to a sort of pantry, where edibles such as butter and cheese were kept. Its original derivation is supposed to bo tho' old French "boterie"—a place for wine or bottles.
