STABLE AND TRACK NOTES.

. WILL NEED EXPERIENCE. The hunter Aspect, who has been under Iv. Olive's care at Ellerslre for the purpose ot gaming experience as a juniper, lias been schooled over the pony hurdles several times during the. week. So far lie has not displayed any marked jumping ability and gives the impression that he will need plenty of time to make a proficient fencer. Aspect will have his first trial in public at the Waikato limit Club meeting in October. A STURDY YOUNGSTER. The that the Gay ShieldLady Kerman gelding had in the two-year-old parade did him good and he is now putting more dash into his daily tasks. This youngster is one of the solid type, with a strong constitution, and has made rapid progress since he first appeared at Ellerslie. Ho is a free worker on the track, and when he becomes seasoned should be capable of standing up to all the racing ho will be rcoiiircd to do during the present racing term. MAIDEN CANDIDATE'S PROGRESS. Since resuming work after a short absence from the track Alpinus has settled down nicely and will be kept going with the view of racing at the spring meetings. He is still inclined to pull rather hard in his tasks, which is a bit against him, for he is not as yet as solid as could be wished. When Alpinus has had more experience he is likely to improve in that respect, and, summed im on his past form, a good future should be in store for this maiden.

HIS TURN WILL COME. Since racing at the Pakuranga Hunt • meeting King March lias done no fast t work worth mentioning, but he is in firstj rate condition to stand a solid racing cam- > paign. He put up a good showing in the i Jellicoe Handicap, and if lie repeats that form the next time he goes to the post . some mote money looks assured for him. The Eossendalc gelding rarely runs a bad ! race and will do bettor Jater on in the ', season, preferably over longer distances, as .' he stays on well and is now at the top of , his form. JUVENILES COMING ON FAST. The Captain Bunsby—Volopin filly Velocjtcr and the Captain Bunsbj—Chans filly, ot the same age, have come on rapidly during the last few weeks and are shaping satisfactorily in their early education. Velociter is the smaller of the two, bilt is a neat and compactly-built juvenile, likely to come to hand earlier than her stablemate. The latter is a well-grown youngster, displaying plenty of quality and is more lengthy than her relative. On appearance this filly has a lot to commend her. A DAUGHTER OF LACKHAM. Tho ; Lackham—Morzonia filly in 1\ W. Scally's stable has had the name Aubretia bestowed on her. She is a full-sister to Mahora, one of the first of Laekham's stock to race. Since coming to Ellcrslie Aubretia has done remarkably well, having developed into a solid-looking filly, and although she has never raced she looks, the part and should have a good future ahead of her. Her dam traces back to the Vanguard mare Sortie, the dam of Orloff, so no fault can be found with her breeding. ARROW LAD SPRINTS. That good horse Arrow Lad is going along all light at Woodville. In company with Chock Say he had his first fast work for some time at Woodville on Tuesday morning. He was giving his companion a considerable amount of weight and hopped away just short of the six-furlong post, but had to be steadied till Chock Say got with him. They came home from the fivefurlong post in 1.10, Arrow Lad haying a slight.advantage at the finish. This is considered a good effort, as the trestles were well out from the rails. A COUPLE OF NOVICES.

The novice candidates Lndy Diana and Barograph are being speeded up a bit faster iu their work at headquarters, though botli will require time to get properly seasoned. The former is a robustlooking filly with a nice smooth style of galloping and is bred to go fast. Barograph is not so solid-looking as his stablcmate, but when tried as a two-year-old he displayed encouraging speed on the track and ie a likely improver with age. These novices are working under the supervision of their owner, Mr. E. H. Cucksey, who intends to give them plenty of time to mature. AN IMPROVED HORSE. Few horses at Ellerslie are thriving better than Catoma, who is now more solidlooking than ever before. He has not been overtaxed lately, due to the fact that he has no immediate engagements, but J. Thorpe is allotting the chestnut gelding plenty of the right class of work to keep his condition solid. In the limited experience that Catoma has had over hurdles his form has been distinctly promising, and, having the required physique and necessary speed, there is every prospect that he will eventually reach top class in that department. MAKING GOOD PROGRESS. During the short time that Prince Colossus has been in work at Ellerslie he has made marked improvement and is now in capital condition to begin a solid preparation. So far the bulk of his tasks have been restricted to strong pace work, and when he has had a few fast gallops he will be ready to race. In the early part of the last season Prince Colossus ran a couple of good races and promised to turn out well, but owing to a slight injury had to be eased up for a short period. His subsequent form was below expectations, and it will be interesting to see how ho fares under H. Dulieu's guidance.
