APPLES IN BETTER DEMAND. CAULIFLOWER VERY CHEAP. EGGS IN HEAVY SUPPLY. An improved tone characterised the market lor apples this week, several varieties selling at higher prices. While tree tomatoes arc only in fair demand, this is regulated by decreasing supplies coming to Hand. Poormun oranges are not quice so plentitul this week, ami therefore realised better pi lets. Lemons, on tne other hand, are reacning the market in large quantities, which tends lo keep prices low. Eggs and Butter. Duck eggs are being sent to market in largo quantities, and prices rule low. Hen eggs are also plentiful, the demand scarcely keeping pace with the supply of these lines. Quotations are:—First grade hen eggs, ll%d per dozen; B grade, C grade, 9%d. First grade duck eggs, 10V4d per dozen; B grade, 9%d; C grade, B^d. Farmers' butter, 9d to lid per lb. Poultry. At to-day's auctions the supply of poultry was medium, and the demand was keen for table birds. The prices paid show a rise for table birds, and a poor demand for layers. Selling rates were as follow: — Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime. 4/ to 6/ each; not prime, 3/ upwards; light breeds, prime, 2/6 to 4/; not prime, 2/ upwards. Fat roosters: Heavy breeds, prime, 2/ to 2/9; light breeds, 1/6 to 2/. Fat hens: heavy breeds, 2/9 to 3/6; light breeds, I/O to 2/9. Pullets: Heavy breeds, best, 3/ to 4/; light breeds, best, 3/ to if. Drakes: Young, prime, 1/6 to 2/6; old, 1/ to 1/3. Ducks: Young. 1/6 to 1/9; old, 1/ to 1/3. Turkey hens: 5/ to "/; gobblers, 6/ to 9/. Cockerel chicks: Light breeds, 2d to 3d. Day-old chicks: 8.0., 7d to 9d; Leghorns, sd'to 7d. Guinea fowls: 3/6 to 4/6.
