STRIKE TO END.
TAWA FLAT DISPUTE. SETTLEMENT ANNOUNCED. I (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. A settlement of the dispute on the Tawa Flat railway deviation, as the result of which I*2o tunnellers had been on strike since August 8, was announced to-day by Mr. A. Cook, general secretary of tho New Zealand Workers' Union. The men are to resume work on Monday morning. Mr. Cook said the Minister, the Hon. J. Bitchener, had agreed to pay £1 per shift to all men engaged in the bad "break" for a fortnight, which time was considered ample to finish the "break." The Minister also agreed to regard the men's holiday privileges as being not affected by their action in ceasing work during the period of the negotiations. The conditions of the settlement have been submitted to a full meeting of the men, and, by a large majority, it has been agreed to resume work.
