WHIT-SUNDAY.
According to an officl&l Viotice issued under tlie auspices of tlie_ Church Assembly, the origin of Whit-Sunday is to be found in the old Anglo-Saxon word "Wit," meaning knowledge. The same word appears in "Witenagemot, meaning the meeting of the learned men.
