GUNS TO KILL SWORDFISH.
The machine is now to be applied to the swordfishing industry. Auxiliary schooners have been equipped with Norwegian harpoon guns, which replace the "striker" standing in the "pulpit" and hurling the "lily iron" with rope and buoy attached. The guns resemble ordinary singlebarrel shotguns, but are larger and heavier. They shoot a small spreading dart into the fish at distances up to 125 feet. When the handling of the gun is mastered, it is believed the longer range ensure many more prizes.
