AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
SAVIDAN CUP ROAD RACE. The Ellerslio Amateur Athletic Club will conduct the annual road race for the Savidan Cup on Saturday, September 16. The course will be the same as last year, from the Pakuranga Hall to the Ellerslie Reserve, a distance of 5J miles. The race will be run as an open handicap this year instead of a sealed handicap as last year, so that all runners stand a chance of winning the trophy, which will be awarded to the first man home. The present holder is Jack Nicholson, the Ellerslie and Auckland veteran, who will be defending the trophy this year. Entries for this race will be received by Mr. K. J. Crawford ("Herald" office. City) or Mr. L. Filkington (tobacconist, Ellerslie). Arrangements have been made to transport athletes to the point of starting from the Ellerslie Reserve.
