SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

An enjoyable dance was given at St. Sepulchre's Hall last evening, when the Grafton Cricket Club entertained a number of members and their friends. The club's colours were used for decorative purposes, and good music added to the enjoyment of the social gathering. * * • »

The Victoria League has combined with the "s> T avy League and the Society for the Protection of Women and Children for a Daffodil Day sale to-morrow. The money collected will be equally divided. The Victoria League uses this money for the various expenses in connection with its work for the backblocks. A great number of books are sent to the backblocks, and the postage is heavy. Money is also needed for material for garments, which are also sent to the country.

Miss Peggy Ford was guest of honour this afternoon at a delightful tea party given by Mrs. J. W. Parr and Miss Audrey Alison, at the latter's home in Remuera. Daffodils, japonica and freezias made attractive decorations and musical items and competitions provided pleasant entertainment. Among those present were: Mesdames John Chambers, John Collins, Keith Buchanan, Alan Montgomery, Misses Betty Parr, Evelyn Ford, Dene Plummer, Wilma Frater, Janet Wallace, Gwen Kingston, Winsome Airey, Jean Kent, Joan Robertson, Doris Trilte and Anderson.

Mrs. M. Connelly, of Bayswater, gave an enjoyable bridge afternoon and evening to augment the funds of the welfare branch of the Bayswater-Belmont Women's Society. Among those present were: Mesdames H. Connelly, H. Bach, P. C. Easson, Braund, L. L. Rabbidge, Hart, Hector Preston, B. Francis, Eckett, Collinson, Forrest, J. Kentoul W.' M. White, Taylor, Richards, Thompson, Horace Preston, P. Ward, Lonergan, Reeve, Brinsden, Mellor, Sellers, Maguire, Wheeler, B. Sellers; Misses Jackson, M. Ward.

A pleasant luncheon party was given yesterday by Mrs. John Chambers at her home in Remuera. Blue, gold and orange flowers mingled' with the more delicate pastel shades, added touches of spring gaiety to the rooms. The hostess wore a mushroom pink frock of wool georgette, and Miss Ford, the guest of honour, wore an ensemble of fawn flecked tweed. Among those present were: Mrs. F. Lintott, Mrs. Robert Chambers, Misses Vivien Ford, 'Wilma Frater, Dene Plummer, Janet Wallnce, Marie Colson, Marie Jones, Pat Buddie, Joan Northcroft, Gwen Kingston and Audrey Alison. .

The Mothers' Club, Y.W.C.A., held a meeting on Tuesday, when Mrs. Clias. Dickens presided over a good attendance of members. Mrs. Bradstreet, who has recently returned from a tour abroad, was the speaker for the afternoon, and gave an interesting talk on ,f Women of Other Lands/' .Mrs. .Bradstreet spoke of the women of Pitcairn Island, Corsica, France, Algiers, England and Belgium, and beautiful pieces of hand-made lace wero displayed. Mrs. Dickens thanked the speaker, oil behalf of the members, for her interesting address, the thanks being- carried with acclamation. Tlie weekly bridge evening was liekl in St. Michael's Hall, Belmont, last night, and the prizewinners were Miss Piggott and Mr. Ogilvy, the hidden number prize being won by Miss Joy Verran. Mrs. Piggott was hostess, and supper was served by a ladies' committee composed of Mesdames M. Buckley, C. H. Taylor, H. H. Osmers, Misses G. Buckley and Taylor. Amongst those present were: Mesdames J. Edwards, A. Edwards, Alexander, Rice, West, Ogilvy, Butcher and Miss Curry.

The annual meeting of the Mount Roskill branch of the League of Mothers was' held yesterday afternoon in the Methodist Church, Three Kings. The president, Mrs. Bates, gave a short talk on "Criticism," and the thought for the month was provided by Mrs. T. Hughes. After the presentation of the annual report and financial statement, the meeting took the form of a members' question afternoon, several interesting questions being discussed. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: President, Mrs. B. Bates; vicepresidents, Mcsdames T. Irvine and A. Teutenberg; secretary and treasurer, Mrs. R. M Webber; committee, Mesdames Brand, Dunmore, Hughes, Jellie, Judd, Peacocke, Randrup and Snell. Afternoon tea was served by Mcsdames Hudson, Judd, Peacocke and Miss Perrin.

There was a. large number present at a bridge and 500 afternoon held by the Otahuhu Croquet Club in the bowling club's pavilion, Mason Avenue, Otahuhu, yesterday. The pavilion was beautir fully decorated with ferns and bowls of lovely sweet pea and mauve and purple stock. Miss F. Whyte won the bridge, the consolation prize going to Mrs. H. Everitt, while the 500 was won by Mrs. T. Latton, Mrs. J. E. 0' 1 lies being awarded the consolation trophy. The winner of the hidden number was Mrs. L. Pengelly. After afternoon tea, Mrs. W. Morton, the club's president, presented the prizes to the successful players. Among those present were tlio Mayoress, Mrs. H. T. Clements, Mesdames W. Morton, F. Ellcry, J. Peterson, R. Rugg, Whyte, T. Latton, H. Everitt, L. Pengeliy, H. J. Mofßtt, L. Ivimber, E. Elliott, E. Piper, Rodgers, J. Todd, Cahill, J. E. Gillies, E. Paton, Madigan, Misses F. Whyte, Lippiatt and E. Hilliard.

Tho New Zealand Women's Association At Home at the Metropole, London, on July 27, was attended by over a hundred members and their friends. The •juests of honour were Mrs. Forbes and Mrs. Masters, who were very pleased to meet so many New Zealanders in London, writes our correspondent. Lady Wilford, the president, Lady Salmond and Mrs. Hal Williams, the vice-presi-dents, received the guests, while the committee was indefatigable in introducing the members to each other and to the visiting New Zealanders.
