TO SAVE £300,000.
LOWER FREIGHTS. THREE-YEAR CONTRACT. MEAT AND BUTTER. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The Moat Producers' Board and tho Dairy Produce Board announce a new shipping freight contract for a term of three years from September 1. It provides for an extra C per cent off tho basic rates, making total reductions off the basic rates of 21 per cent. Tho new rates represent 7.05 per cent off the present contract rates and mean a saving to producers of about £300,000 a year, of which about £ISO,OOO is a saving on tho transport of meat and £124,000 is the saving on dairy produce. The Blue Star Line participates in the contract for 10 per cent of. the refrigerated cargo. Provision Is made also for the carriage of chilled beef, and the companies have agreed to improve tho regularity of services by increasing tho number of time-table steamers.
