CHANNEL SWIM.
First Crossing This Year By A Girl. TEMME HAS HARD LUCK. (Received 12 noon.) LONDON, August 29. Miss Sounie Lowrie swam the English Channel, from Griz Nez to South Foreland, in 15J hours, being the first to negotiate the crossing in 1933. E. H. Tenime and Charles Zimmy (the legless American) left the English coast to-day, in excellent conditions, to attempt the Channel swim. The former met with hard luck, as he had to abandon his attempt three miles from the French coast, owing to having a foot injured by striking a tug. He was in the water for 11J hours.
