THE GRADUATE'S HOOD.

Is there any ethical practice regarding the J time and place for University graduates to ■ wear their hoods ? I ask this question because ? there seems to be a practice amongst those ' graduates who sing in church choirs to wear 1 their hoods in churches. It is certainly edify- • ing for the people in the pews to see that 1 amongst the choristers there'can be numbered I M.A.'s. B.A.'s, M.Sc.'s, BjSc.'s and even LL.B.'s, • but what about the unfortunate graduate who > cannot sing? He must forever waste his j sweetness on the desert air. It is an estabr lished custom that those of the clergy wh'o ' are University graduates should wear their J hoods" when officiating in church, but for lay >■ members of the congregation, whether in choir, = stall or pew, to bring out their hoods for a 1 Sunday airing seems to be rather a cheapent ing of the hood, by using it for swagger and t adornment rather than for the purpose for 1 which it was bestowed. There is a time and • also a place for everything. 5 O TEMPORA O MORES. r ,
