OBITUARY.

MRS. JOHN SCHISCHKA. An old colonist, Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Schischka, died at her home, Shelly Beach Road, on August 29. She-was born in Devonshire, England, being a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Burn. In 1878 she was married in St. Matthew's Church, Auckland, to the wellknown merchant Mr. John Schischka, and the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary five years ago, when nine surviving children were present. The grandfather and great grandfather of Mrs. Schischka were in the British Navy, going back to Nelson's time. REV. ROBERT W. JACKSON. A minister of the Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Robert Winchester Jackson, died on August 29 at the home of hie son, Mr. G. W. Jackson, Saltburn Road, Milford. He retired from his last charge at Matamata ten years ago. Mr. Jackson was born at Galashields, Selkirkshire, Scotland, 86 years ago, and was educated for the ministry of the Presbyterian Church " at Edinburgh and Glasgow Universities. His first call was, to a church in Lanarkshire. Then he was at Falkirk for 14 years. He was married to Miss E. M. Thompson in 1880, at Newcastle-on-Tyne. In 1900 he went to Australia with his wife and two children, and six, months afterwards came to New Zealand. Mr. Jackson wae called to the church at Whangarei but preferred to accept another charge at Southbridge, Canterbury. While there he edited the "Ellesmere- Guardian." From Southbridge Mr. Jackson was called to Matamata. For the past eight years he had lived with his son at Milford. MRS. H. E. SHAKESPEAR. An old Takapuna resident, Mrs. Harriet Elizabeth Shakespear, died on Ausrast 28 in Auckland. She was the widow of Mr. William Henry Shakeepear, whose residence on the further side of Lake Pupuke was one of the earliest built there. After the death of Mr. Shakespear the property was purchased by the Roman Catholic Church and the building is now used as a convalescent home. At one time Mre. Shakespear conducted a needlework business in Queen Street, but she had for a long time lived retired. Latterly she had been an inmate of the Auckland Hospital. There will be a private interment at O'Neill's Point Cemetery.
