; AKAEANA DEFENCE CLUB. WAKEFIELD'S GKEAT SEASON. At the thirty-seventh annual meeting of the Akarana lilfle Club Mr. E. J. C. Reston presided over a large attendance of members. A* strong committee was elected and the new season, which opens on October 7, promises to be most successful. The Club's successes during the past season were pleasing, members gaining distinction at all rifle meetings attended. The most . outstanding club member was R. F. Wakeiield, who shot consistently throughout the 1 season. His initial success was the winning of the B grade aggregate for the highest - score in all the championship matches of the New Zealand Rifle Association's meeting held at Trenthani. He finished in the fourteenth position in the King's : forty and gained in the Blsley aggregate 1 a position well up amongst New Zealand's t best marksmen. He continued his euc- . cesses by winning the South Auckland - championship at Waihi and the first match t at that meeting with a possible of 50 points. At Paeroa he again succeeded in annexing the first match over the range ' of 300 yards, with a score of 47 points. At the Auckland military meeting he was .* runner-up for the cadet championship, j His other successes were the Akarana championship, the club's average, service 1 championship, and three club trophies. GRAMMAR OLD BOYS' CLUB.

The weekly shoot of the Grammar Old Boys' Rifle Club was held nt the Rutland Street Drill Ilnll on Monday. T. G. His success was merited, coming after a series of shoots in which ho Just missed the 100 mark, with the exception of R. S. Wells the other scores were "well below average.
