AT HOME AND ABROAD.
Many society women and hundreds 0/ others, who would never have dreamed of buying their clothes anywhere except in Paris until a short time ago, are now backing English dressmakers for all they are worth. Lady Buchanan Jar J hie has ordered some lovely dresses from Peggy Morris, writes a London correspondent. They include a white lace evening dress which has tiny ruffles of the lace on the bodice, and is worn with a wide cire satin scarf edged with a deep frill of the same lace; a morning suit of navy Angora, with a tight-fitting skirt built up well above the waistline and worn with a cut-away jacket and whit© pique shirt; and a black satin coat and skirt which has an amusing white organdie boa that clips at the back of her neck. • • • ♦ All previous records have been beaten this year by the bush library committee and helpers of the Victoria League, in Melbourne, by sending out nearly 15,000 books. Of this number 1700 have been eent to children. The newspaper and magazine committee have also sent away large parcels, many of them across the seas to lonely islands, and wireless and cable stations. Co-operation with the University authorities in bringing into touch with the league young people going overseas, who have gained scholarships, has been a new development. Groups of them have been entertained before leaving and put in touch with the activities; the league in London has shown extraordinary kindness in furthering the interests and pleasure of these young people on their arrival in London.
