"DISSOCIATE US."
OTAGO HARBOUR BOARD. PAYMENT IN STERLING. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DUNEDIN, this day. The following cablegram was sent to the Bank of New Zealand, London, on August 26 by the Bank of New Zealand: "The Otago* Harbour Board requests us to advise you as follows: Referring to the cabled* report, dated August 25, if it has not already done so, in justice to the board we request the. 'Daily Telegraph' to dissociate the board from those bodies who have paid or are contemplating paying interest in Ne.v Zealand currency. Such a comparison is quite unjustifiable, and places the hoard in an unfair position. The board did not contemplate paying other than in English currency, and only after a spirited protest to the Government was it permitted to do so. It is desirable that a full statement of the board's position should be published in London, so that there can be no room for misconception as to its attitude. Please arrange accordingly. Such statements as have been published are most damaging to the board's reputation in London, and prejudicial to its prospects regarding the renewal of the loan."
