MR. W. C. CARGILL.

A well known resident of Morrinsville, Mr. William Clement Cargill, died this morning in a private hospital in Auckland, aged 63 years. He was born in Kent, England, being a son of the Rev. C. Cargill. He was educated at Newport and Dulwich, England, also at Heidelberg, Germany. After his arrival in New Zealand, Mr. Cargill represented Wairarapa in cricket matches. He was proprietor of the "Wairarapa Star," and later, with Mr. A. C. Major, changed the title of the paper to the "Wairarapa Age." Later Mr. Cargill was proprietor of the "Patea Press," and with Mr. R. J. Eames started the "Pukekohe Times." He purchased the "Morrinsville Star" in 1915, and at the time of his death was managing director of the Cargill Publishing Company, which publishes the "Morrinsville Star," the "Matamata Record'," and the "Putaruru Press." In 1906 Mr. Cargill was a member of the Wanganui Education Board, and later of the Taranaki Education Board. In 1928 he was elected president of the New Zealand Master Printers' Federation. He was also president of the Morrinsville Horticultural Society and of the Tennis and Badminton Clubs. Mr. Cargill leaves a widow and three adnß daughters, Mrs. N. Howie, of Morrinsville, and Misses A. Cargill and D. Cargill, also of Mor.rinfiville.
