WOMEN CRICKETERS.
NO " FREAK" DRESSES
LONDON, August 15.
At Malvern (Worcestershire), nothing unladylike will be permitted in the attire worn by the women cricketers, numbering more than 100, who will take part in the festival conducted by the Women's Cricket Association.
Matches will be played simultaneously on six grounds, the festival lasting the whole week.
Dress rules will be strict, shorts, sleeveless jumpers, Oxford "bags," and other freak fashions being barred. Even silk stockings are prohibited. Players must wear white cotton stockings. The favoured dress is similar to the gym. slip worn by hockey players and made of white serge. This is worn with a shirt blouse, collar and club tie.
The players include women celebrated in other sports, such as Violet Straker, England's lacrosse captain, and Miss Doman, captain of the English hockey team.
The "Daily Mail" declares that cricket is s'urprisingly popular with women, more than 1000 girls playing in the six county associations.
They even talk of women's Tests with Australia. Women's advance in sport is further demonstrated in their participation in football.
