WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.

SILVERHOPE. Mrs. Aldworth presided at the last meeting, when notice was given of an afternoon to be held in the Scots Hall, Hunter ville, in conjunction with the Poukiore Institute and the Hunterville branch of the W.D.F.U., for the sale of work of the Auckland Institute for the Blind. Mrs. Millen, president of the Wanganui Federation, was and gave a good account of the Dominion conference, for which she was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mrs. Goodall, of Bulls, gave a short address on gardening, and answered questions. The president then spoke a few words of farewell to Mrs. Ellery, a much-valued member, and aeked her to accept with all good wishes gifts for herself and her small daughter. The competitions were for special bulbs (the prize donated by Mr. Goodall) and the best shortbread. ARAMOHO. The Mayoress of Wanganui was present at the August meeting of the Aramoho Institute, and thanked mem-, bers who had brought parcels of clothes in response to her appeal. A play was produced by Mrs. Butcher, called "The Proof of the Pudding." The parts were capably taken by Mesdames R. A. Goodey, J. Brine and B. Morries. Mrs. Revell gave a demonstration on "Making baskets with lavender," and the competition was for scissor painting, and was won by Mrs. Wells, with Mrs. Rush second. Mrs. Brine gave a good report on the conference, and remits were handed in for the federation meeting to bo held at Turakina on October 19. WESTMERE. At the last meeting Westmere Institute enjoyed a talk on the working of garden circles, after which a garden circle was formed. Miss Dawes gave a report on the Dominion conference, which was much enjoyed, aa were also songs by Mrs. Preston. A rug made partly from black fleece wool and partly from home-dyed white wool was on exhibition, and was much admired. The points competition, soft toys, resulted in a fine collection of animals, and was won by Miss Rene Mullins with an elephant," Miss E. Nicholls, a rabbit, second, and Miss N. Smiths, pussy, thirdL Potatoes for the competition were distributed.
