CITRUS EMBARGO.
WISHES OF N.Z. GROWERS. - REQUEST TO GOVERNMENT. Resolutions passed at a meeting of persons interested in the citrus fruit industry, are to be forwarded to the Government. The opinion expressed at tho meeting was that, the supply of New Zealandgrown lemons was and would be in the future adequate to supply o*ll the requirements of the Dominion; that the present supply of sweet oranges and mandarins from New Zealand groves was inadequate; that the supply of marmalade oranges grown in New Zealand was now adequate for all demands, and that no importation of Seville oranges was necessary; and that the supply of locallygrown grapefruit was rapidly increasing, and should be able to supply all needs except during the off season (January to April inclusive). The Government is to be asked to continue the embargo on lemons and Seville oranges, but to lift the embargo on sweet oranges and mandarins from such places as Norfolk Island and the Murray and Murrtimbidgee irrigation areas in Australia, which are more than 100 miles ! from any fly-infected areas.
