FOREST FIRE MENACE.
PANIC-STRICKEN VILLAGERS. ST. JOHN'S (N'fTd.), August 13. Several villages on the northern coast of Newfoundland were evacuated on Friday night when forest fires prevented escape except by water. Hundreds of small boats carried the panic-stricken refugees to safety Several buildings on the outskirts of the town of Burlington were destroyed.
