MEETING OF NEW EXECUTIVE
LADS FOR WORK OX FARMS
At the first meeting of the recentlyelected executive of the Franklin Agricultural and Pastoral Society, the president, Mr. A. Best, in welcoming new members, expressed the opinion that the coming year would be the most difficult in the history of the society. He appealed for the whole-hearted co-operation of members.
The secretary reported that a number of boys were seeking employment on farms and that he had also had requests from farmers for suitable lads. Since the societyhad undertaken this work, 17 boys had been placed on farms and a number of them were doinp quite well. The remuneration ranged from 5/ up to 15/ per week, while in one case a farmer was paying £1 to a very suitable lad.
Schedule revising committees were appointed and conveners were elected as follow:—Horse section, Mr. C. F. Shepherd; cattle, Mr. A. Best; sheep and wool, Mr. R. Schlaepfer; pigs, Mr. K. C. Clark; hall, Mr. J. Reynolds; schools, Mr. R." C. Clark (secondary), and Mr. W. C. Morris (primary).
The following sub-committees were appointed:—Finance: Messrs. A. Best, J. Fulton, W. J. D. Sharp. R. C. Clark, D. R. Hamilton and W. C. Morris. Grounds: The president, vice-presidents, treasurer, conveners of schedule revising committees and Mr. J. Pollock. Green feed: Messrs. F. J. Morrow, W. Reynolds, C. Lauer and H. J.lorrocks.
