In the third Rugby Test match at Johannesburg on Saturday South Africa j beat the Wallabies by 12 points to 3. There was an attendance of 30,000. At half-time there was no score. NEW PLYMOUTH, Saturday. Taihauauru—Taranaki, West Coast and Waikato—retained the Prince of Wales Cup and Te Mori Rose Bowl to-day against the challenge of Tokeratl —North Auckland —by 19 points to 14. The game was fast and exciting, the teams being well matched, and in the second spell both sides throwing the bull about well. The forwards were evenly matched, but the winners' backs were more enterprising and handled the ball better. The game was fast and a large crowd thoroughly enjoyed the typically colourful Maori play. For the winners J. Wilson (Waikato), T. Robinson (Taranaki) and T. Pa'rata (Horowhenua) were outstanding, and for North Auckland W. Davis, It. White and M. and W. Rika played well. For the winners Wilson (2), Broughton, Kawe and Taiuru scored, Jackson converting two; for North Auckland, Davis (2) and Graham scored, White converting one and kicking a penalty goal. CANTERBURY BEATEN AGAIN. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CARTERTON, Saturday. Walrarapa defeated the touring Canterbury Rugby team to-day by 11 points to 9. There was a very large attendance and beautiful weather. The Canterbury forwards, carrying more weight, pushed Walrarapa back, but the defence stood. A line kick took play to half-way, but an attractive back movement by Canterbury placed Walrarapa on the defensive. The Walrarapa forwards began to show more life, and the Canterbury backs commenced throwing wild passes-, from which Tillcy secured the ball, raced up to the Canterbury full-back and passed iutield to Stringfellow. His return puss, however, was knocked on. Walrarapa took a turn on attack nnd kept the visitors tied to their line. Canterbury emerged, but llazelhurst missed a pass and Fitzgerald picked up the ball, raced to the full-back, kicked over his head, and ran In to score. Tillcy goalcd. Wairarupa 5, Canterbury 3. Pretty passing saw Canterbury again pressing, but their advantage was nullified by a knock-on. llazelhurst, from outside his own twenty-five, made a splendid run, beating several opponents, nnd passed to Manchester, to Duushea, who scored in a handy position. Dunshca's kick hit the post. In the second spell there was an exchange of long kicks till, by a splendid rush, the Walrarapa forwards carried play to the Canterbury twenty-five. Nunn pnssed to Stringfellow, who brilliantly cut in, beating Hazelhurst and Dunshea, nnd scored ten yards from the corner. Tilley failed with the kick. Pretty passing by Mortlock, Hazelhurst and Ilattersley saw play up in the Walrarapa twenty-five, but the defence stood and the forwards, playing with more devil, kept Canterbury busy on defence. From centre field Hazelhurst broke through and passed to Manchester, to Wntkins, to Foley, to Ilattersley. who scored at the corner. Dunshea failed. Roach retired with a broken arm received in tackling Ilattersley. Walrarapa again attacked and their forwards carried play to the goal. DUNEDIN, Saturday. Fourteen thousand people witnessed an exciting return game between Otago and Southland on the Carisbrook ground. The teams were well matched, though the Otago forwards, playing a great game, wore in the ascendancy. Five minutes after the start the McSkimming brothers combined in bright passing, the wing dashing over at the corner. There was even play till Geddes charged down a punt by McSkimming, nnd paved the way for a try by Gait. McSkiuiming and Forter each added penalties, and an Otago passing rush culminated in Dunne scoring a beautiful try. f Immediately after che resumption, Poster equalised the scores with a beautiful penalty kick from forty-live yards out. The Otago backs handled the ball well and tackled solidly. "Porter pulled Dunne down when he was streaking for the line. Otago continued to hold territorial advantage, the wingers, McSkimming and Dunne, bringing the crowd to their feet by dashing runs. Southland were penned on their line and McSkimming was almost over, but a force- down resulted. The visiting backs attacked, but the inside men met solid resistance and the movement was quickly broken up. Play was livened when McSkimming kicked a goal from a mark. The visitors rushed play to Otago's goal mouth, where Sharpe potted a neat goal, givins Southland the lead by one point, with ten minutes to go. There was no further score.
