BANK INCIDENT.

YOUNG MAN CHARGED

PALMERSTON SENSATION.

ALLEGED ATTEMPT TO ROB,

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, this day. A rather stoutly-built young man, aged 19 years, appeared before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court this morning charged with, that on August 11, being armed with an offensive weapon, to wit, a loaded revolver, he did attempt to rob William Loudon, teller, at the Union Bank of Australia. The charge was a sequel to the arrest of a man following the sensational incident of an alleged attempted hold-up in the bank yesterday morning. The police asked for and were granted a remand until Friday next. Counsel for accused asked_ for the suppression of accused's name in the mean-

time. The magistrate commented that it was hardly the kind of case where the name should be suppressed. . . Counsel,' said it was . understood that accused was being remanded for observation. His people had no idea that he was in Palmerston Nortli.

The .Magistrate: He is fairly young. Counsel: I think that accused will be sent to Wellington later for observation. The Magistrate: He may not be altogether responsible. Perhaps under the circumstances the name should be suppressed, until the full facts come out. It is an unusual .charge and I have some hesitation in the- matter. Had he been an older man I would not have suppressed'tlie name.'However, accused may not be responsible-. That would be a good reason ior suppression. .There can be no harm in Suppressing the name while he is on remand. - ,•. '

Accused's name was thereupon suppressed.
